Question

Question:     Elle va ________ Havre aujourd'hui. She's going to Le Havre today.(HINT: Le Havre is a French city).      I noted the Le was missing in the question so after writing au, as being masculine I knew this was the answer but not having Le in front confused me so I added it, making my answer 'au le'.   Why was the Le missing. Was this an examiners deliberate deception?

Bonjour Jonathan,
The lesson explains that:
"With city names containing a definite article (e.g. La Rochelle / Le Havre), you will use à La or de La for feminine nouns, and the contracted forms au or du for masculine nouns"
Hence, "Elle va au le Havre" cannot be marked as correct.

Bonjour Jonathan,You appear to be on the right track  (but there is no deception) --  the lesson Il va au Havre.But in this case, we have a female"She's going to Le Havre"  The compound definite article is à plus le to make au. Elle va au (à le ) Havre"Hint: Listen carefully to the way au Havre is pronounced in the lesson tape.Hope this helpsBonne continuationJim
