This is a very interesting question!
When doing a comparison using with expressions, such as "autant que, mieux que, plutôt que etc.", is followed by an infinitive then you can use the preposition "de".
Il vaut mieux y aller en voiture que d'y aller à pied. = It is better to drive there than to walk there.
Je préfère manger des légumes plutôt que de manger des fruits. = I prefer eating vegetables rather than eating fruits.
