Settled on

I wonder how one is supposed to arrive at jeté mon dévolu for settled on.

I chose choisir which seems to me to capture the sense but wasn’t credited.7

Hi Angela,

As Chris rightly says 'choisir' would have been fine and we can't include every single possibility.

The two given are -

jeter son dévolu = to set one's sights /one's heart on something

se décider pour quelque chose = to decide on something

The first one, although I must admit it wouldn't have been my first choice is a beautiful expression and it is always good to learn new expressions in language learning, although it will make you feel 'out of your comfort zone'.

Here is a link I found on that particular expression which might interest you-

Bonne Continuation!

Hi Angela,

there is no "credited" in these self-assessed exercises. They are a learning opportunity, not so much a test. Just because choisir wasn't given as an option doesn't mean it is wrong. You learned a new -- and more idiomatically French -- way to express "to choose". Even in English there are many ways to say this: to set my sight on, to set my heart on, etc. Take it as an opportunity to expand your vocabulary.
