Bonjour. Why is it "début septembre" and not "au début de septembre"?

Hi Jane,

No reason I think but with months of the year you will talk of

début ou fin septembre = beginning or end of September

It has been simplified over the years from saying the full expressions

début /fin du mois de septembre

just like

centre ville = centre de la ville
