Translation of ’at length’

In the expression ”...where we'll be able to chat at length.”, is it possible to use ’en détail’ instead of ’longuement’ ?  My dictionary gives both as possibilities.

Hi Frank,

Although both 'longuement' and 'en détail' can mean 'at length', the choice will depend on the verb you use.

Regarding to chat ( bavarder or discuter), I would say that 'longuement' is the correct word to use.

If the verb had been 'expliquer' the 'en détail' would be correct

But bavarder en détail doesn't work

Bonne Continuation !

There's a difference between the two:

longuement -- long in temporal duration
en detail -- in depth, in detail: this is more of a thorough chat
