Use of "à" to mean "with"

Use of "à" to mean "with"

I don't understand the use of "à" in the phrase "une grande église romane à clocher carré" to mean a church with a clock tower. This does not seem like "une tasse à thé" or "une machine à laver." Why not "une église avec un clocher carré"?
