use of "aimer"

Sydney B.C1Kwiziq Q&A regular contributor

use of "aimer"

For,"I love my cousin Benjamin.", Kwizbot's answer: "J'adore mon cousin Benjamin. "

But in the PLF lesson on "aimer", I read that one of the uses of it can be in the love you have for a family member. Therefore, I translated the sentence as "J'aime mon cousin Benjamin."

Bonjour Sydney,

I am not sure if you are referring to our Kwiziq lesson, but to use the verb 'aimer' on its own, you have to be very, very careful.

It is quite possible to fall in love with a cousin, so to be sure, you need to add something like 'beaucoup' or change the verb to adorer which can be used for the love of carrots, a hobby or even for a human being and has much less intensity in meaning than the English 'to adore'.

Plus, there is a hint that says:

to love as a relative ( not romantic love)

Hope this helps!
