Use of Masculine and feminine when talking about time

Pendant son année sabbatique, il a voyagé autour du monde.During his sabbatical year, he travelled around the world.
In this example, why is it 'son' annee sabbatique?  AS annee sabbatique is feminine, shoud it not be 'sa'?
This question relates to:French lesson "An vs année, matin vs matinée, jour vs journée, soir vs soirée to express a time unit or a duration in French"

the attached lesson addresses this - it is ‘ son année ‘ because of the vowel following the possessive adjective
