Bonjour! I was wondering why the verb acheter is as achetées rather than acheté ? Do we know that the person who bought the boots is female or is this another rule that I may have missed ?

This follows the rule that if the COD precedes the participle, it will be matched in number and gender to the COD. The COD in the sentence is nouvelles bottes, which is feminine plural. Hence it is achetées.
