Car/parce-que

Can these be used interchangeably for 'because', or is there a difference?

Hi Josephine,

Just to add to what Jim and Chris said here's my answer to a similar question posed in the past -

https://progress.lawlessfrench.com/questions/view/in-this-case-car-is-used-in-the-same-sense-as-parce-que

Hope it helps!

Hi Josephine,

Putting it as simply as possible:-

"car" seeks to explain or justify.

"parce que" is a reponse to "why"

So the application of these conjunctions would depend on context.

Hope this helps

Jim

Jim's right. Car justifies something mentioned earlier in the sentence. Therefore car can never be at the start of a sentence, while parce que can.

Car/parce-que

Can these be used interchangeably for 'because', or is there a difference?
