Great question indeed!
In French you wouldn't use the verb "monter" to say "to mount a picture on the wall", but the verb "accrocher" or "suspendre" (to hang).
E.g. "J'ai accroché le tableau sur le mur." / "J'ai suspendu le tableau au mur."
