Can you explain why not using “ dans l prison “ in the exercise ?

La prison is a female noun even though it doesn't end in -e. I'm not sure what you mean with "l prison". Regarding en prison vs. dans la prison: en prison is to be imprisoned, whereas dans la prison is "in the prison building" but not as a prisoner.La police a mis le voleur en prison. -- The police put the thief in jail.Je vais à la prison pour interroger le vouleur. -- I'm going to the prison to interrogate the thief.Mon frère travaille dans la prison comme gardien. -- My brother works in the prison as a guard.
