Demander "a" or demande "de"

Demander "a" or demande "de"

The question was to translate, "You will ask me for money...." but the correct answer was "vous demanderez DE...." not "vous demandez A". I thought when you ask someone for something it was "demander a"

Hi Joanne,

The correct expression is -

demander à quelqu'un de faire quelque chose = to ask someone to do something

so:

Il m'a demandé de lui donner de l'argent = He asked me to give him/her some money

Nous avons demandé aux enfants de se coucher tôt We asked the children to go to be early

Hope this helps!
