Can we say … je n’essoufflais plus instead of of je n’étais plus éssoufflé ?

Bonjour Maanpreet kaur,

There is a slight difference in meaning:

être essoufflé / à bout de souffle = to be out of breath

Je suis essoufflé = I am out of breath

essouffler = to leave [sb] out of breath

Ce marathon a rendu le coureur complètement essoufflé = this marathon has left the runner completely out of breath

s'essoufler = to get breathless

Je m'essoufle quand je monte l'escalier = I get breathless when I go up the stairs
