extraordinaire as an adjective

extraordinaire as an adjective

This was a sentence in the lesson:  Ce soir-là, quelque chose d'extraordinaire se produisit.

Why is it not "quelque chose extraordinaire"?  Why is it "d'extraordinaire?"

Thanks for the explanation!

Hi Carole,

It is a particularity of some expressions -

Quelque chose, rien, quelqu'un,  have to have a 'de' before the adjectives that follow them.

e.g

Il n'y a rien de bon à manger ici = There's nothing good to eat here

C'est quelqu'un de très motivé He is a very motivated person

Take a look at the following Kwiziq lesson -

Hope this helps!
