How so I know which is right?

How would I know which is correct?:

Cette écharpe rappelle ma mère à moi.

Cette écharpe me rappelle ma mère

Tu rappelles mon frère à mon ami. -- You remind my friend of my brother. Literally: you call to mind my brother to my friend.

The indirect object (à mon ami) is the one who gets reminded. The direct object (mon frère) is the person who is being called to mind by the indirect object.

Cette écharpe me rappelle à ma mère. -- This scarf reminds my mother of me.
Cette écharpe me rappelle ma mère. -- This scarf reminds me of my mother.
