I don't seem to be able to find anything on this topic, although it is quite fundamental and also allows one to practice lots of tenses as one switches between direct and indirect speech. Any chance of this topic appearing?

Bonjour à tous,
As Jim explained this lesson is in the pipeline but not there yet. The link below (although it is focusing on the Sequence of Tenses in French), does illustrate the Indirect Speech in French:
This one too: Discours Indirect
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
Bonjour John,
I understand that Kwiziq have this aspect of French grammar in the pipeline for inclusion, but this lesson is not currently available.
In the meantime, I can suggest that you try here:-

I hope that you will find this helpful.
Bonne continuation
Jim
Bonjour Jim,
yes, that was a helpful link, thank you. The link dealt with the use of 'qu'est', 'que' and 'est-ce que' in direct speech compared to 'ce que' and 'si' in indirect speech, which is something that I had come across before but it hadn't sunk in, so this was very useful.
It didn't deal with the change of tense when moving from direct to indirect speech, so I'll look forward to Kwiziq's lesson. Hopefully it's not too far down the pipeline.
best wishes
John
Lawless French goes into the tense changes in some detail, John R:
