Bonjour Lynn,

 I am assuming you meant to write -

''Jack took the giant down.'' 

In which case, in French, you would use the verb -

descendre quelque chose de quelque part = to take something down from somewhere

So you would have to add a 'de' -

Jack a descendu le géant du placard, de l'étagère etc...
