Can you explain when the verb s'installer can be used? Is it just an alternative for s'asseoir or does it have more meanings?

Hi Danielle,
Both 's'asseoir' and 's'installer' ( à sa table ) is given for
I sit at my table
but they are not really synonyms.
it is difficult to translate this particular meaning by an equivalent apart from 'sitting down' but it means to position yourself/ to settle down ( in a comfortable manner) really.
Take a look at the following page giving you advice on 'bien s'installer devant son ordinateur' which you might find interesting.
