Je ne le crois pas-

Why is it "je ne le crois pas" and not "je n'y crois pas"?

When you talk about croire it's "je crois à ..."

Bonjour Jen,

In French, croire can take a direct object (croire quelque chose / quelqu'un) or an indirect object with à (croire à quelque chose):

Je ne crois pas Marc -> Je ne le crois pas = I don't believe Marc -> I don't believe him
Je crois pas à son histoire -> Je n'y crois pas = I don't believe his/her story -> I don't believe it / I don't buy it

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
