I am confused because I thought 2nd and 3rd verbs were always spelled out in full so i put aller here.

Hi Sarah,
I don't know which rule you are referring to but 'aller' is the infinitive form of the verb 'to go'.
Take a look at the following lesson to see how we use it but never in forming the passé composé .
