La facture instead of la note?
Bonjour Neil,
In French, both "la note" and "la facture" can refer to a bill or invoice, but they are used in slightly different contexts:
1. "La note": - This is commonly used in restaurants, cafés, and bars. It refers to the bill you receive at the end of your meal or drinks.
2. "La facture": This term is more formal and is used in a wider range of business and commercial contexts. It's typically used for detailed invoices or bills for goods and services. It's common in retail stores, for utility bills, or professional services.
In summary:
Use "la note" in casual dining situations or when asking for the bill in a restaurant or café or even a hotel.
Use "la facture" in more formal situations, for detailed invoices, or when you need an official receipt for accounting or tax purposes
Bonne Continuation et Joyeux Noël !
Bonjour Neil,
La facture would be similar to an invoice in English -- the totality of the transaction set out line by line.
La note is more in the sense of le total or l'addition ( a bill) but used as I understand it, colloquially.
However, I am keen to see input from a staff expert.
Bonne journée
Jim
