M’appelle vs s’appelle?
This question relates to:French lesson "Saying your name with Je m'appelle/Tu t'appelles/Vous vous appelez"
Asked 2 weeks ago
Bonjour Megan,
Jim is correct. However, I just want to highlight one important thing about "I call myself / he-she calls him/herself ...":
Je m'appelle ... = My name is ...
Il / Elle s'appelle ... = His / Her name is ...
Je me fais appeler ... = I call myself ...
Il / Elle se fait appeler ... = He / She calls him/herself ...
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !

Bonjour Megan,
It is a matter of which subject pronoun is appropriate -- m'appelle relates to the first person subject, whereas s'appelle relates to the third person subject.
So we have first-person subject Je m'appelle and third-person subject il / elle s'appelle --> I call myself versus he or she calls him/herself.
I hope this helps you to understand more clearly.
Bonne continuation
Jim
