No definite article with rendez-vous

Hi, I was expecting to see a definite article (“un”) before rendez-vous in “J’ai rendez-vous cet après-midi”. Could you explain why this is not needed please?

You can say it with or without an article. Both is acceptable. Cécile commented on this here: https://progress.lawlessfrench.com/questions/view/rendez-vous
