Is there a difference in meaning between these two expressions?
Prendre un verre/boire un coup

Bonjour Sue,
Both expressions means 'to have a drink' apart from 'boire/prendre un coup' is quite familiar/colloquial and 'boire/prendre un verre' is not so much.
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !

Hi Sue,
"Prendre un verre" is to have a glass of (say) wine.
"Boire un coup" is to have a shot. To my mind something small and strong (maybe Whisky?)
Jim
