« Prévoir » vs. « planifier »

At the very start, why is it « ...as-tu prévu quelque chose pour le week-end ? » and not « ...as-tu planifié quelque chose pour le week-end ? » ?What is the difference between the verb « prévoir » and « planifier » ?

In French, "prévoir" is more about having something in mind or anticipating, while "planifier" suggests a more detailed or formal planning process. For casual plans or general intentions, "prévoir" is usually the better choice.

J'ai prévu d'aller au cinéma = I'm planning to go to the movies

-> casual plans / more general or informal plans

Nous avons planifié notre itinéraire de voyage = We've planned our travel itinerary

-> more detailed or organized approach to planning
