qui ne correspond pas à l'image idéalisée qu'ils s'en étaient faite

I would have expected "ils s'en étaient faits" (reflexive compound verb).  I can only assume that the l'image takes precedence over ils s' hence the ending -e is added rather than -s.  Is that correct?

Bonjour i,
As explained in another query you submitted on the Q&A forum:
With reflexive verbs in compound tenses, the past participle agrees with the direct object if it comes before the verb. If there is no direct object, or if it comes after the verb, the past participle doesn't agree.
In "l'image idéalisée qu'ils s'en étaient faite", the direct object is "l'image idéalisée" which appears before the verb. Hence, le participe passé agrees with the direct object (l'image is feminine singular): 
l'image idéalisée qu'ils s'en étaient faite
