Translation of 'nowadays'

Question

In the sentence, ”I still do it nowadays from time to time.”, I used ”de nos jours” instead of ”aujourd'hui” and it was not accepted.   Should it be included as a possibility?

No, you couldn't use 'de nos jours' in that sentence, as it applies to many people, which isn't the case here.
de nos jours
is used for the broader, general sense of 'nowadays/in our times/these days'. 
It often implies a contrast with the past.
De nos jours, les gens utilisent beaucoup leur téléphone. 
You'd never use it to mean 'even today', as in this specific day.
It is closer in meaning  to,  'in this day and age.'
