Tres versus trop

Hi, i used "très mignon" and the answer rather suggest "trop mignon". In which cases you can use those two distinctively ?

Hi Nanis, 

you can say, 'très mignon' for 'very nice'

The English given was :

It's really cute! 

with two possibilities 

C'est vraiment/trop mignon! = It's really / so cute!

Sometimes, in colloquial French, I have heard trop to emphasize something even more. This is similar to English, where one would say, "This kitty is just too cute!"
