Tu apprends le francais

Just a bit confused with this example. It is translated to "you are learning french", so does that mean in French you "take" something you are learning, or does it translate better to something like "I am taking French" (as in a class on French)?

Evan,

it is the verb ‘ apprendre ‘. It follows the same conjugation patterns as prendre, and unsurprisingly has early etymological links with ‘ prendre ‘ in their Latin origins.

It is however distinct in meaning(s). The translation is correct.
