Understanding compound nouns

Bonjour,

I am looking over this lesson and was making compound words and I made a sentence and was hoping  you can tell me if it is correct?

Doghouse

Une maison à chien

A dog house would be la niche or le chenil (=kennel). You can also say la niche à chien. But you wouldn't use maison.
