I saw this translation in one of my exercises
Je tiens à ces boucles d'oreille comme à la prunelle de mes yeux.I love these earrings dearly.
Why wouldn't it be someting like "J'adore tellement ces boucles d'oreille?"

I couldn't find this example in the lesson.
The expression 'tenir à quelque chose' is a lovely expression, very popular, which I would translate as 'to cherish' or 'to hold dear'.
In the case of the earrings, they would have to be an heirloom.
To simply use the verb 'adorer', which is often translated as just 'to love' in English doesn't convey the intensity, I'm afraid.
