im unable to find a translation that makes sense for this phrase?

Hi Jadelya, 

It is an idiomatic expression meaning, 

fort /à grand bruit =  very loudly / intensely

often used with the verb applaudir.

Not having actually listened to the lesson, but from the text I would suggest "Applaud loudly" or

"Clapped and cheered"
