Cher= dear / expensive (adjectives that change meaning according to position)

Note that certain adjectives change their meanings depending if they appear before or after the noun.

Look at these uses of cher / chère:

Mon cher ami
My dear friend

Une jupe chère
an expensive skirt

Before the noun, cher / chère means 'dear' or 'beloved', but after the noun it means 'expensive'.

NB: generally adjectives appear after the noun, but some very common adjectives go before.

Bonjour Jennifer ! Here, we used the term "girlfriend" as in "girl friend" to infer gender, however your answer is also perfectly correct, so we've edited the question as to mark it as correct too. À bientôt !
