Avant que + ne expletif + subjunctiveI realise that this is a question about "avant que + ne expletif + subjunctive" but if the subject is the same in both clauses can we not also use "avant de venir" instead? Avant que je ne vienne, je dois acheter des fleurs. or Avant de venir, je dois acheter ds fleurs.

passé composé ( conversational past )Some verb tense questions specify "passé composé" and some specify "passé composé ( conversational past ) ". What's the difference ? What is "conversational past" ?

For feminine nouns like lait. You use de la? Does this mean that Je veux de la lait is correct.

De + Qui , A + QuiWhen translating a sentence into French is there a way to decide if I use a + qui of De + Qui etc. In some of the B2 questions I am not sure of the correct grammar. To me xx could be that, of whom, whom, about which etc.. Perhaps its just any of the above.

Is the people in a city considered female?From the C1 week 62 writing challenge, talking about a heat wave: "á Paris par exemple, elles ont atteint les 29°C vers 4h du matin". No particular group of people were mentioned in previous sentences, so why "elles"? Are the inhabitants of Paris (or perhaps of cities in general) as a group considered female?

A suggestionI wish there were tests comprised of questions from all the levels -- I find that knowing which material was covered in each section is helping me unconsciously "game" the test. It would be a great way to review all the material (or perhaps just A0-B2).

Use of etre + descendre/monter in the passe composeI know that you use etre + ascendre or descendre or monter in the passe compose when the verb is followed by a preposition, but I am still slightly confused, with certain situations. For example, I got on.... would be "Je suis monte sur...", But "I mounted.... would be "J'ai monte...." You could say "I mounted the bus." or "I got on the bus." Could you use either, saying "Je suis monte sur le bus." OR J'ai monte le bus?" Is "to go upstairs" "monter l'escalier" or "aller en haut" I have the same problems with descendre. For example, how do you say "I went downstairs"? Forgive the lack of accents. Your advice sheet doesn't work on my computer. Beverley
