Aller á when using pronoun

Le rose va à ma sœur. Pink suits my sister. To say “Pink suits her”. Would it be: Le rose la va.  I base this on the quiz...  Ces chassures nous vont. (Correct). Ces chassures vont á nous. (Incorrect)

Hi Celena,

The verb

aller à quelqu’un = to suit someone

uses indirect pronouns because of the preposition à -

me, te, lui, nous , vous, leur

Cette robe me va bienThis dress really suits me

Ce pantalon te /vous va bienThese trousers really suit you

Ces chaussures leur vont bienThese shoes really suit them

Ce costume lui va bienThis suit really suits her/him

Hope this helps!

Le rose va à ma sœur. -- Pink suits my sister.
Le rose lui va. -- Pink suits her.

Remember, lui is the indirect object pronoun. La would be the direct object pronoun.

In le rose lui va - why don't you need the à?

CécileNative French expert teacher in Kwiziq

Hi Bryony,

The à' is replaced by using the indirect pronoun  and is no longer present in the sentence -

Le rose lui va = Le rose và à elle

Take a look at this Kwiziq page on indirect pronouns for further explanation and examples.

Pronom d'objet indirect

Bonne Continuation!
