Comment vs Quoi

Question

The lesson says Quoi? is a bit abrupt. I did not think one would wish to abrupt to someone who said, "I love you," to me! In the test, you said Comment? was wrong.

Just to add to what Chris has said, in that particular example,
we accept both 'quoi ?' and 'comment ?' 
as acceptable answers.

"Quoi?" as a question is very much like saying "What?" in English. It may be considered impolite in some circumstances.

To confirm, the lesson clearly translates ‘comment’ as ‘what’ in the situation of being used as a single word response/question, and to replace ‘quoi’ in more formal contexts.

Depends on the circles you move in I guess, but in the family/familiar situations I mostly encounter, ‘quoi’ wins hands down for frequency - the manner of expression is also important though !
