DOPs placed before IOPs

DOPs placed before IOPs

In the lesson, we read that

3. Direct object pronouns le/la/les are placed before indirect object pronouns moi/toi/lui/nous/vous/leur

Aren't there other DOPs such as nous/vous/me/te? And do those qualify as preceding IOPs?

Thanks!

Hi Don,

You might find my discussion with another student, Shrey featuring what is commonly called 'the football team'  relevant to your query -

Hope this helps!

Hi Don,

Order of pronouns:-

Direct / Indirect Object  --  me, te, nous, vous

Direct Object                  --  le,   la,  les

Indirect Object                -- lui,         leur

Ideally, you would see the order more clearly if you were to create a table based on the above.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Careful: you are confusing stress pronouns (moi, toi) with object pronouns.

IOP: me, te, lui, nous, vous, leur
DOP: me, te, le/la, nous, vous, les

Je le lui donne. -- I'm giving it to him.
Je nous le donne. -- I'm giving it to us.

Notice that the order of pronouns doesn't follow grammatical function, as in the first sentence DOP precedes IOP, whereas in the second one it is the other way around. But if you remember the order Jim mentioned, you'll be fine (le before lui, and nous before le).
