Etre cense faire

"On est censes marcher".   I have never seen a lesson on this usage.  Is censer a verb--I can't find it.  Is there a lesson on this?

Hi,

The expression 'être censé faire quelque chose' is very niche so wouldn't warrant a lesson. It's an impressive one to use if you have the chance.

Just to add to what Jim said, take a look at this Larousse page

https://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais/%C3%AAtre_cens%C3%A9/14074

Bonne Continuation !

Hi Mike,

The expression is "être censé (adjective) faire" (qch)  --> "to be supposed to do" (sth)

https://www.wordreference.com/enfr/supposed

https://progress.lawlessfrench.com/questions/view/vous-etes-censes-________-sur-le-trottoir-you-re-supposed-to-walk-on-the-sidewalk-you-re-supposed-to#AnswerAddForm

Hope this helps

Jim
