that emmener was to stay there with her whereas amener means to take her and leave her off. Am I wrong?

Hi Ann,

No you are not wrong as strictly speaking -

amener is to take someone from one place to the other and leave behind ( to drop -off)

emmener is to take someone from one place to the other

however, as the taxi driver doesn't know if it is his last stop he would probably use emmener.

The client might say:

Le taxi m'a amené à l'aéroport à 5 h ce matin = The taxi dropped me off at the airport at 5 am

One of Laura's email lessons covered this a while back:

Emmener = to take a person/animal/vehicle

Emporter = to take an inanimate object/thing

Similarly:

Apporter = to bring a person/animal/vehicle

Amener = to bring an inanimate object/thing

(However, amener is quite often used colloquially to mean all of the above!)
