Why is there a ‘y’ in this sentence?
Il ne joue pas souvent au foot, et toi ? -Je n'y joue pas souvent non plus.
I don’t play often either.
This is one of the examples above.
This relates to:Ne ... pas non plus = Not ... either (negation) -

The expression is 'jouer à'..., the y replaces 'au foot'.
