Wrong meaning of Lancer

I thought the verb "lancer" means to start/initiate, and "jeter" means to throw.

Hi Victor,

Although the verb 'lancer' can mean to launch as in -

Lancer une entreprise / un nouveau produit sur le marché = to launch a company/ a new product on the market

It also means to throw -

Lancer des cacahuètes aux singes = to throw peanuts to the monkeys

Lancer des pierres = to throw rocks

etc.

Bonne continuation!

The verb lancer has several meanings. It can also mean to cast, for example. Did you try an online dictionary like, e.g., Collins. Sometimes words have auxiliary meanings and don’t correspond to a single English word. The English word « to launch » captures the flavor of lancer quite well, I find.
