I like my car. I like theirs too.This is a question of when does something become plural. In the question of how do we translate "I like my car. I like theirs too." or "J'aime ma voiture. J'aime ________ aussi." My car is definitely singular, however, why is the answer "la leur" when we are talking about comparing more than one car, maybe. The sentence alone doesn't say how many are in "THEIR" group, we could be talking about a couple, or a much larger group, it's not clear in the context.

Martin n'est pas arrivé depuis longtemps.This is also a tricky example to comprehend because here arriver is translated as having the same meaning as être. Would it be possible to see a translation of "Martin n'arrive pas depuis longtemps." to compare the difference the tense makes (for clarification) please?

Subjunctive vs. Imparfait

Hi, I’ve seen a couple of examples where there seems to be both an argument for the use of the Subjunctive (as the verb follows a “que”), and also an argument for the use of the Imparfait (due to the needs of the tense in the sentence). In both of the examples below the Imparfait “wins”. What’s the right way to think about this situation? Is there really a “competition” here, and a rule for how to resolve it?

“Enfin, et je pense que ma femme serait d'accord.”

“Tu auras grossi pendant que tu vivais en Angleterre.”
