In the question presented, it said she had missed her bus and therefore had to ____________. I put "aller a pied" and the answer came up as "marcher". This does not seem to agree with the explication in the lesson.

Bonjour!
How best to translate this sentence please? : "Were you there before?" - Etais-tu là avant? (or) As-tu été là avant?
and the same sentence in the negative: "Weren't you there before?" - N'étais-tu pas là avant? (or) N'as-tu pas été là avant?
Thanks.
Cheryl
How do you say the following in French?
a) I spent a day with Martin.
b) I spent the day with Martin.
My guess is:
a) J’ai passé un jour avec Martin. (following the example of "spent a year" indirectly)
b) J’ai passé la journée avec Martin. (following the quiz answer directly)
Am I correct? If so, why are the two different? Can I just remember "a" vs. "the" means one is a unit of time and one is emphasizing the duration? Thank you.
