Why soit d’argent soit un cadeau?  Why not soit de l’argent or soit d’un cadeau?

Would be be incorrect to say " j’ai (tu,il,elle,etc) une fièvre " ? As in English "I have a fever" as Cécile notes “j’ai une bronchite" or is it alway "j’ai de la… (I have fever)" 

I read somewhere else that you always put the most important first, ie the thing or person that is missed, ie Jean manque à ma sœur ; my sister misses Jean , Jean lui manque ; she misses Jean. Is that a guide worth following?

It's a small point, but do French people write Ier with a capital I or 1er with a 1 ? Or either ?

In the Fall/Automne quiz I put marron for chestnut but was marked wrong. Why?

Why is Francaise docteur  capitalized, but astronome francaise is not?

Why is 'marron' (as opposed to 'châtaigne') unacceptable as a translation for 'chestnut'?

I love this site-- but I think they have done a bad job explaining what, if any, is the difference.  Especially in the quizzes. what am I missing?

“Quel plaisir de recevoir DE tes nouvelles” and “J’espère recevoir DE tes nouvelles”. When do you need to add the “de” after “recevoir”?  Does it depend on the noun, in this case “tes nouvelles”? Because it seems other nouns can follow this verb without a preposition e.g. “Quel plaisir de recevoir ton cadeau” and “J’espère recevoir une lettre”.
