Il ________ descendu le drapeauI ran into this prompt on the quiz "Il ________ descendu le drapeau, car la reine avait quitté le palais." The correct answer is "il a descendu." Why is it "a" and not "avait"? I feel this is more of an English question than a french question. We have "la reine avait quitté." So shouldn't it be "il AVAIT descendu"? When should we use avait and avait for both clauses?

aussiAre there any guidelines for the placement of 'aussi', before or after the verb? It seems that wherever I put it, it's wrong - and I don't seem to find a lot of consistency when I look for it on various websites. Help would be appreciated! Terri

Past perfect: sequential eventsHi, I have a question about he following sentence in the lesson: "Après qu'elle lui avait avoué ce qu'elle ressentait, elle avait rougi." Seems logical to me that she would have blushed AFTER she confessed her feelings, hence "elle a rougi" makes more sense, no? Would appreciate your thoughts, thanks in advance!

Definite Article or Possessive Pronoun not Required here?Translate That day, you kept uour word, Fill in the blnk. Cette jour-là, tu ............... parole. Conversational pat for verb tenir. Should answer not be Cette jour-là, tu AS TENU LA (TA) parole.
