Specific question

The lesson says that when talking about specifics, you use être, but the kwiz said this should be aller:

Martine était malade, mais elle ________ mieux à présent.

She is feeling better at present sounds like it is specific, so why is 'est' not right here?

Je n’ai jamais aimé le goût de la viandeHello. In your week 26 A2 writing test the above line is given as a correct translation of 'I've never liked the taste of meat.' As this lesson shows I believe there may be an error here. In this context the verb describes an ongoing state of affairs, without a set start and without a set finish, (if indeed this state does end.) Unless I'm mistaken I believe this would be better expressed in the imparfait. I'd love some clarification here if possible. Thanks!

'Also' or 'but'I think most of the examples could be translated by keeping the negation and using 'but'. At least for me, it's clearer than losing the negation of 'ne' For example: Je n'ai que fait mes devoirs. I didn't do (anything) but my homework. Nous n'avons regardé qu'un film. We didn't watch but one film. Nous n'avons que mangé des bonbons We didn't (do anything) but eat sweets. Nous n'avons mangé que des bonbons We didn't eat (anything) but sweets. They're not perfect English perhaps, but with the right intonation I think they could hold in oral English.

Sans rien - “without nothing“. In English this would be a double negative and would therefore theoretically mean “with something”. But in French would we always say “sans rien” or could we also say “avec rien”?
