Can these sentences also be translated as ought?e.g. Je devrais apprendre le français = i should or ought to learn french? In English ought is stronger than should, but in french, how would you distinguish them if at all?

subjunctive v indicative

can someone please explain why " je suis desolée que tu es triste" is in indicative but

"je suis desolée que ton roman n'aie pas été publié en france "is in the subjunctive

i assume it is to do with negativity but the je suis desoléé hasn't changed

How come in the 3rd sentence, "l'avion" is used and in the rest of the excerpt, "le vol" is used?
