It seems that while it's technically correct to use indicative with "apres que", most people in France use the subjunctive in daily practice, and actually find it weird if you use the indicative. The practice is so common that it is becoming a defacto standard (e.g see https://www.francaisavecpierre.com/apres-que-subjonctif-ou-indicatif/). As I know Lawless is a strict grammarian, I will use the indicative and correct French speakers when they use the subjunctive (I also guess that I will soon be thrown out of France by a horde of angry French people :-) )
In the video there is no definite article in front of Israel. Why? Are there other countries that do not have a definite article beforehand?
This question got marked "Incorrect" because the past participle didn't have the "e" at the end: Je félicitais Julie pour être parti à temps. The subject/actor in this sentence could be either male or female. Should the past participle agree with the indirect object ("Julie", in this case)? Or with the Subject, "Je"? If the agreement is with the subject, then either "partie" or "parti" would be correct.
Thanks! Greg
Bonjour Madame,
In the sentence given in the lesson as
"Ta téle est bien mais la mienne est mieux"
In this sentence although the comparative form of 'bien' has been used but then also ' que' has not been used;though here 'mieux' is I think has been used as an adjective.
Mam,Pls guide the reason behind not writing 'que'
Thanks
‘Comme j’ai toujours eu du mal avec les maths...’ ‘As I’ve always had a struggle with math...’
I think that ‘always’ indicates a continued and repetitive sense so why is the verb not in the imparfait?
Thank.
If I rewrite to "il lui reste des croissant du weekend", does this mean he have some croissants left from the weekend?
J'adore les bonbons ! - Oui, mais lesquels sont tes préférés ?
In this example can’t the answer be as-
‘Oui,mais lequel est ton préféré?’
How to judge whether the answer of lesquelles or lequel should be singular or plural ?
Pls confirm
Thnx a lot
Is le passé simple used in daily newspapers and popular magazines or is it strictly reserved for use in literature? Merci!
