Question about theory

Does this rule only apply to verbs that use être as an auxiliary?  Meaning that any verbs that use avoir as an auxiliary wouldn't abide by this rule. 

This question relates to:French lesson "Agreeing past participle with subject's gender and number with (+ être) verbs in the compound past in French (Le Passé Composé)"

Hi Amanda, 

Verbs that take the auxiliary 'avoir' use different rules and sometimes agree with the direct object.
